Rome Lowers Jobs Rate in November

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Rome’s unemployment rate dropped in November.
At the same time, Rome added jobs and maintained annual growth in most critical measures for the one-county metropolitan statistical area (MSA).
“This really has been a great year for Georgia,” Butler said. “Across the state we continue to add jobs and find people to fill them. We’ve routinely set records. There is much to be thankful for this holiday season.”
The unemployment rate for November, at 3.7 percent, was down 0.3 percent over the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 4.5 percent. That rate was ranked ninth among the 14 MSAs.
The labor force in Rome went down by 281 in November to reach 44,199. That number is down by 157 over the past year – an average monthly decrease of about 13.
Rome lost 125 employed residents in November, bringing the total to 42,569. The number is up by 199 for the year, or about 17 per month.
Jobs were up 200 in November, pushing the total at 41,900. The job total in Rome is up 300 over the year – an average monthly increase of 25.
Claims for unemployment insurance increased by 62 percent in November. They were up by 102 percent when compared to the same month a year ago.
