Find Out How to Make, Donate Homemade Masks

Staff Report From Rome CEO

Thursday, April 16th, 2020

Community mask makers who want to put their skills to good use can donate masks to Floyd to be used by patients who come to our facilities and by employees who don’t directly treat patients.

While Floyd has an ample supply of medical-grade masks for nurses and doctors, homemade masks are useful as the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions encourages the public to wear them to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

View recommendations on how to make and care for the masks. The masks must be made from certain materials and the designers should keep in mind they will be used in a medical setting.

A work group at Floyd is coordinating efforts to supply materials, patterns and instructions to volunteer mask makers and is trying to get adequate supplies of elastic material. Elastic is in short supply right now because so many crafters and seamstresses across the nation are volunteering to make hand-made masks.

"If you have a craft basket or box at home, please see if you have any elastic material in it that can be donated," suggests Aimee Griffin, Floyd’s Imaging Services Director who is coordinating the donation process.

Call Floyd Imaging Service departments before bringing completed masks or to donate elastic:

You can also email [email protected] if you have elastic to donate.
