The Georgia Lottery Corp. announced it raised $1,516,383,000 for education in fiscal year 2023, bringing the total transferred to the State Treasury’s Lottery for Education Account since inception in 1993 to more than $26.8 billion.

“The Georgia Lottery’s achievements over the past 30 years have provided opportunities to millions of students and families through the HOPE and Pre-K programs,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “These incredible fiscal year results are yet another example of how beneficial the lottery is in building a skilled, well-educated workforce worthy of the No. 1 state for business.”

FY23 marks the eighth consecutive year that the Georgia Lottery has surpassed $1 billion in profits for education, exceeding FY22 profits by $42.4 million.

“Our success in FY23 is attributed to the support of many, including Governor Kemp, the legislature, our board of directors and advisory boards, as well as lottery retailers, vendors, partners, employees and players,” Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin said. “With all Georgia Lottery profits benefiting HOPE and Pre-K, these strong results ensure that Georgia’s students and families in every county remain our biggest winners.”

In FY23, which spanned from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, Scratchers and iLottery sales reached record highs. Mega Millions and Powerball provided a boost with four of the top 10 jackpots in U.S. history occurring in FY23. The COAM product, regulated by the Georgia Lottery, also contributed to the returns.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $26.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 2.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
