Governor Announces $35M for Cybersecurity Center Expansion in Augusta

Gov. Nathan Deal announced $35 million in funding for an expansion of the Hull McKnight Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center in Augusta. The second facility will serve as an incubator hub for technology startups as well as a training space for the state’s cybersecurity initiatives and workforce development programs.

Georgia Banks’ Earnings up 15% in Third Quarter

Georgia’s 178 FDIC-insured financial institutions earned $889.3 million during the third quarter of this year, up 15.2 percent over the same period in 2016. For the first nine months of the year, cumulative earnings were $2.5 billion, increasing by 10.3 percent over the same nine-month period in 2016.

Economic Developer Training at UGA Gives Georgia Advantage in Attracting New Industry

It didn't take long for Larry Brooks to connect the dots during one of his Georgia Certified Economic Developer classes. Brooks, executive director of the Walker County Development Authority, already was looking for a site to locate a new industry when he attended a financing course offered by the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government. In the class he learned he could use money from a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax to purchase land and develop it.

Georgia State Economist: Rebuild From Hurricane Season Expected to Boost 4Q Economy

Despite doom and gloom estimates due to an unusually active hurricane season, third quarter gross domestic product growth came in at 3.0 percent, according to Rajeev Dhawan of the Economic Forecasting Center at Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business.

Lt. Governor Casey Cagle concluded his Tenth Annual two-day Business and Education Summit, uniting education and business leaders from across the state. Recognizing the successful partnership between the school system, local industry, and community leaders, Lt. Governor Cagle named Floyd County Schools as the 2017 College and Career Academy of the Year. As part of this honor, Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy received a $3,000 grant sponsored by the Georgia Apartment Industry Education Foundation.

Georgia’s Tourism Industry Generates Record $60.8B in Economic Impact
