State Representative Katie Dempsey (R-Rome) was recently presented with the 2018 Charlotte Wilen Maternal and Infant Health Advocate of the Year Award by the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia. HMHB recognized Rep. Dempsey for sponsoring House Bill 198 during the 2017 legislative session of the Georgia General Assembly.
“I am honored and humbled to receive the Charlotte Wilen Advocate of the Year from Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, a group that does amazing work on behalf of Georgia’s mothers and babies,” said Rep. Dempsey. “It is critically important that we teach about the great benefits of the flu vaccine and encourage people to get the vaccine, especially this year, as we face one of the worst flu seasons in recent history. It was a privilege to sponsor and pass House Bill 198 last session, and I’m thankful to Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies for this recognition.”
HB 198 requires school systems to provide parents or guardians of students in grades six through 12 with information on influenza and the influenza vaccine.
Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia, a member of National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, serves as a statewide voice for maternal and infant healthcare needs.
