New SGA President and Vice President Ready to Serve GNTC Student Body
Friday, November 15th, 2019
The Student Government Association (SGA) of Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) has elected a new president and vice president to represent the student body of all six campuses.
Both students at the Floyd County Campus (FCC), President Jaweah Hamilton and Vice President Tatiana Edwards will begin leading the SGA starting next Wednesday, November 20. The last student government meeting of the 2019 calendar year will begin at noon in the auditorium at the FCC.
“Both Hamilton and Edwards attended the Georgia Fall Leadership Conference in Atlanta this past weekend and are fired up to make a big impact for our campuses through SGA,” Patricia Wiggins, GNTC coordinator of recruitment and student life and SGA advisor said. “Edwards is a strong leader on our campus and wants to see our Student Life involvement grow exponentially.”
Both women posted to Facebook regarding their recent placement in SGA as well as their enthusiasm going forward. “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality,” Hamilton wrote. “This is my first time attending the Georgia Fall Leadership Convention and I have really enjoyed myself!”
The reason the SGA is important is because they oversee the Student Activity budget which is funded by the Student Activity Fee paid by each enrolled student Wiggins said. The SGA approves budgets for all other student organizations including Phi Beta Lambda, SkillsUSA and Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership.
