Floyd Medical Center recently celebrated 15 graduates who completed its 8-week Nurse Residency program.
The intensive program offers clinical and classroom instruction. These residents are nursing school graduates with less than 6 months experience who participate in ancillary and clinical immersions throughout the Floyd facility.
Additionally, residents participate in instructional classes covering a range of topics:
-
Work/life balance
-
Critical thinking skills
-
Conflict resolution
-
Effective communication strategies
Each participant also conducts an evidence-based nursing project focusing on best practices in the clinical setting.
“The program helps create a seamless transition from the classroom to clinical practice," said Dr. Sheila Bennett, Executive President and Chief of Patient Services. “Our commitment to education helps ensure graduate nurses receive comprehensive training and are capable of providing excellent bedside care."
This is the second group of nurses who have graduated from the program this summer.
