Conservatives for Clean Energy recently named Commissioner Echols the "Solar Architect of Georgia." The organization released the following video of an interview with Commissioner Echols: https://vimeo.com/460582240
Beyond solar, Commissioner Echols said Tuesday event will highlight the future of renewable energy in Georgia.
"Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) is the next big hurdle for us in Georgia as we have 4,000 chicken farms north of I-20 producing litter that impacts Atlanta's largest reservoir, Lake Lanier," Commissioner Echols said. "We'll discuss this on the Roadshow with Robin Lanier of Southern Gas and Kevin McCrackin of Marlin Gas and hear about their efforts to bring RNG manufacturing to our state."
David Weaver, Senior VP of External Strategy and Environmental Affairs for Atlanta Gas Light, said Renewable Natural Gas is on the horizon.
“Atlanta Gas Light is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and investing in Georgia to support economic growth,” Weaver said. “Along with our parent company, Southern Company Gas, we are actively pursuing opportunities focused on renewable natural gas not only because it provides a carbon-neutral source of energy, but because it may offer a source of revenue for Georgia farmers and cities, as well. We are excited about the potential benefits it holds for our customers and communities.”
Background: In 2010, Georgia Public Service Commission Vice Chairman Echols wanted to find a way to highlight trends in alternative-fuel-vehicle technology, transportation, mobility and sustainability for Georgia municipalities and businesses. The Clean Energy Roadshow was developed as an in-person event series with a vehicle showcase, to demonstrate how industry and government in rural and urban communities alike can use – or could benefit from the use of – electric, propane and natural gas vehicles and renewable energy.
This is Commissioner Echols’ second term on the Georgia Public Service Commission, having been re-elected statewide in November 2016. You can find his complete biography and photo on the Commission web site at https://psc.ga.gov/about-the-psc/commissioners/tim-echols/
