A new InsiderAdvantage/Fox 5 Atlanta poll underscores the tightness of the January 5th U.S. Senate runoffs.  Republican U.S. Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler lead their Democratic opposition, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, by just one point, 49% to 48%, well within the poll’s margin of error.

The poll was conducted by phone using IVR and live cell phone interviews and is weighted for age, race, gender and political affiliation. The margin of error is 4.4%. Crosstabs can be found HERE

The results:

• Perdue: 49%

• Ossoff: 48%

• Undecided: 3% 

• Loeffler: 49%

• Warnock: 48%

• Undecided: 3%

InsiderAdvantage Chairman Matt Towery: “The Republican candidates have found their footing, with both finally leading their respective opponent. However, that footing is tenuous, given that turnout in absentee ballots cast and early voting thus far has shown a high level of African American voter participation, which if sustained is problematic for the Republicans. Offsetting that at the moment is a very high percent of support from white voters for Perdue and Loeffler. Independent voters, who used to lean Republican in Georgia, support both Ossoff and Warnock by wide margins, although that segment of voters has declined in recent years. The race may hinge not only on turnout but on advocacy. Both Perdue and Loeffler lead among senior voters, but only in the mid fifty-percentile range. They need to up those numbers to feel comfortable about a potential win in January. Meanwhile, Ossoff and Warnock must cut into the fifteen-percent share of the African American vote that the two Republicans currently enjoy. That number usually slips below ten-percent for most Republicans by Election Day.”
