Atlanta Gas Light partnered with Operation Warm to donate 200 new coats to elementary school children attending Floyd County and City of Rome schools. Operation Warm is a national nonprofit dedicated to providing warmth, confidence and hope for children in need through the gift of brand-new coats.
“Atlanta Gas Light is dedicated to keeping everyone in our communities warm this winter,” said Pedro Cherry, president and CEO of Atlanta Gas Light. “Partnering with Operation Warm to donate new winter coats to children in the City of Rome and Floyd County enables us to broaden our reach and give families one less issue to worry about during this extraordinarily challenging year.”
A team of Atlanta Gas Light employees distributed coats between Elm Street Elementary School and the Floyd County Board of Education Dec. 4. School officials expressed gratitude for the gift, which fills a gap in this year’s giving due to the effects of the pandemic on school partners and donors.
“We are thrilled that the students of Elm Street Elementary have been chosen to receive coats from Atlanta Gas Light and Operation Warm,” said Laura Wally, principal of Elm Street Elementary School. “The timing could not be better with the blast of cold weather we are currently experiencing. Having a new coat that actually fits will make a difference for each child who receives one. The students will have a feeling of pride and warmth when wearing their new coats.”
This is the first year Atlanta Gas Light joined with Operation Warm to provide winter coats to children in need.
Floyd County Schools would like to give a special thank you to Atlanta Gas Light and Operation Warm for their generous donation of winter coats,” said Jackie Trammell, social worker for Floyd County Schools. “The donation has come at a perfect time, right as it is getting cold and at Christmas. We look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.”
Founded in 1998, Pennsylvania-based Operation Warm and its partners have provided more than 3.5 million coats across North America.
