Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Rome recorded an unemployment rate of 2.5 percent in September, down six-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.2 percent.

"We continue to see a steady rise in job creation and demand by employers to fill open positions,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “This strong growth has led to Georgia having the fewest unemployed residents in over 20 years."

The labor force increased in Rome by 190 and ended the month with 43,827. That number is up 168 when compared to September of 2021.

Rome finished the month with 42,723 employed residents. That number increased by 431 over the month and rose 478 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Jobs were flat from August to September and rose 1,300 over the year, to 42,500.

The number of unemployment claims went down by 4 percent in Rome in September. When compared to last September, claims were down by about 14 percent.
