Georgia Gas Price Average Below 3 Bucks

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, September 17th, 2024

The Georgia gas price average plunges at the pumps compared to a week ago. Georgians pay an average of $2.97 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday's state average is 9 cents less than a week ago, 27 cents less than a month ago, and 47 cents less than last year. It costs drivers an average price of $44.55 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are paying $4.05 less to fill up at the pump than a month ago.

“Here in Georgia, we haven't seen gas dip below 3 bucks since January 24th when it hit $2.98,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. Driven by tepid demand and crude oil prices below $70, Georgia drivers continue to find relief at the pumps.”

AAA continues to encourage drivers to take advantage of the money-saving gas tips listed below.

Nationally:

Pump Prices are Free Falling

Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline decreased by 7 cents to $3.20 (subject to change overnight). The primary culprits behind the dip are low demand and falling oil costs. According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand fell last week from 8.93 million barrels a day to 8.47. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks rose 219.2 to 221.6 million barrels, and gasoline production decreased last week, averaging 9.4 million barrels per day. Tumbling gasoline demand and oil costs will likely keep pump prices sliding.

Regional Prices:

The most expensive Georgia metro markets – are Hinesville-Fort Stewart ($3.10), Savannah ($3.08), and Atlanta ($3.00).

The least expensive Georgia metro markets – are Augusta-Aiken ($2.82), Dalton ($2.81), and Catoosa-Dade-Walker ($2.71).

Money-Saving Tips for Drivers

  • Shop around for gas prices. Drivers can check area gas prices on the Fuel Price Finder.
  • Consider paying in cash vs. a credit card. Some retailers charge extra per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.
  • Enroll in fuel savings programs.

Fuel-Saving Tips for Drivers

  • Maintain your vehicle to ensure the best fuel economy. Find a trusted automotive facility at AAA.com/Auto Repair.
  • Combine errands to limit driving time.
  • Slow down. Fuel economy diminishes significantly at highway speeds above 50 mph. Drive conservatively and avoid aggressive driving. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduce fuel economy.

Traffic Safety Tip: AAA-The Auto Club Group “Move Over For Me” Campaign

“Drivers, if you see a disabled vehicle on the roadside while traveling, be courteous and Move Over,” said Waiters. “Remember the person who broke down could be you, a friend, a family member, a coworker, or a neighbor. Move Over for the safety of others and because it is the right thing to do!”
