Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) awarded more than $7.4 million across three contracts in Northwest Georgia. The contracts include a bridge replacement, a road widening, and two maintenance projects. The projects are expected to get underway in the coming months after the holidays.
The largest of the contracts in Northwest Georgia is a resurfacing project in Murray County. Northwest Georgia Paving, Inc. was awarded $4.4 million to resurface State Route 61 from just south of Rhymer Road to SR 2, also known as Fort Street. The resurfacing stretches five miles and is slated to be completed September 30, 2025.
In Floyd County, F.S. Scarbrough, LLC was awarded the contract to replace the Rehobeth Road bridge over Spring Creek. The $1.85 million project is expected to be finished March 31, 2026. A detour will be utilized during construction, and GDOT will announce the start of the detour when it's installed. The other major project awarded include adding turn lanes on SR 101 at Old Draketown Trail in Carroll County for $1.17 million. Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. will install the turn lanes with an expected completion date of March 31, 2026.
"It's looking like 2025 is going to be a very busy year for us," said GDOT District 6 Engineer Grant Waldrop. "These contracts will join the dozens of other construction and maintenance projects we already have underway in Northwest Georgia."
