Thieves Steal Millions in Food Benefits, Leaving Georgians Struggling to Feed Their Families

It’s an issue hitting vulnerable families across the country, and Georgians are wondering where to turn for help as criminals wipe out months-worth of funds from their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
Deborah Jordan, a mom in McDonough, spends hours in the kitchen each week, preparing meals for her young family. Her monthly grocery bill totals $2,500, and she says she’s grateful for the $1,536 in SNAP benefits she qualifies for to offset a significant portion of the cost. She says she normally doesn’t check her benefit balance before heading to the grocery store each week, but had an urge to do so before heading out on Dec. 5.
