After a patient who was injured in a wreck needed rehabilitation, a physical therapist at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center created an individualized plan to help her dance again.

As a result, Atrium Health Floyd has given the BEE Award (Beyond Exceptional Expectations) to Brandon Blaylock, recognizing his outstanding contributions to patient care and support. The award was created as a way for nurses to recognize support teammates.

Blaylock creatively used the Vector system to allow the patient to offload weight as she healed. She later returned to the hospital with friends to perform for the rehab team.

Katie Wingate, who nominated Blaylock, praised him for making therapy personal and individualized, paying attention to small details that significantly impacted the patient's experience.

Blaylock received a certificate, BEE pin, flowers and jar of honey in recognition of his contributions.

“I was just glad to be able to help the patient get back to doing something they love," said Blaylock, who has been a teammate at the hospital for three years.
