Metro Rome Sees Rise in June Unemployment
Friday, July 25th, 2025
The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the one-county Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded an unemployment rate of 3.7% in June, up three-tenths over the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 4%.
“June's unemployment trends tell a familiar story — Georgia's students are stepping into our workforce as schools let out for summer, creating the temporary unemployment and hiring fluctuations typical for this time of year,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “With Georgia's recent historic announcement of 5 million jobs, these students are stepping into a local workforce that belongs to them, in a state that's proven over and over that when Georgians show up, opportunity follows.”
The labor force in Rome rose 30 from May and 1,214 from June 2024, reaching 48,271.
Rome finished the month with 46,499 employed residents, down 99 from May and up 1,310 from June 2024
Rome ended June with 47,700 jobs. That number increased by 100 over the month and rose by 1,900 over the year.
In June, initial unemployment claims in Rome decreased by 105 from the previous month and by 20 from the same month a year ago, totaling 215.
