Another state senator has entered the race to become Georgia’s next Lt. Governor. Republican Greg Dolezal entered the crowded race last week, touting himself as “the one who gets it done.” He joins colleagues Blake Tillery, Steve Gooch, John Kennedy and Rep. David Clark in the race to fill the position that will be left open by current Lt. Governor Burt Jones – who is running for governor.

In fact, he is the eighth Republican to announce a run for lt. governor. Others besides the state lawmakers are Brenda Nelson-Porter, Takosha Swan, and Jerry Tims. So far, Sen. Josh McLaurin is the only Democrat in the race.

Dolezal, from Cumming, launched his campaign with a video touting his support for President Trump. He also sent out a mailer on the heels of his announcement – stating that he is running for Lt. Governor “because we are at a turning point as the radical left continues to threaten public safety, our livelihoods, our families and our children’s future.”

“I stood with President Trump when it mattered most,” Dolezal said in the video, making reference to the fact that he led a special committee that sought to investigate Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis for using Georgia’s anti-racketeering law to accuse Trump and 18 others of scheming to overturn Trump’s 2020 presidential election loss to former President Biden.

On his mailer, Dolezal says he stood with President Trump when it mattered most and also wrote the Riley Gaines Act to keep men out of women’s sports and out of our daughters’ locker rooms.

“The law I authored stopped DEI mandates in public schools,” he says. “And my bill, the Georgia Promise Scholarship, was the most sweeping pro-parent education reform enacted in Georgia history.”

Dolezal began serving in the Senate in 2018 and pledged at that time to limit his time in office – reaching that limit this year.

On his website, Dolezal says he is “ready to lead” – touting that he is “the only candidate with unrivaled real-world experience building companies and employing families right here in Georgia. That’s the experience we need to make sure Georgia businesses thrive and our economy grows.”

“We are at a turning point. We need a true conservative with backbone that will push back against the radical left and save America.”

According to his website, prior to politics Dolezal spent over a decade working in ministry first on staff at North Point Church, as tour manager for world-famous Christian singer Chris Tomlin, then part of the small group that launched Passion City Church in Atlanta. He still helps produce Passion Conferences, which bring together tens of thousands of Christian college students from around the world each year. It also states that he has founded and led businesses in manufacturing, health care, technology, and service industries while employing hundreds of Georgians along the way.
