The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation is pleased to announce the availability of three grant programs supporting the preservation of historic properties around the state: The 1772 Foundation Grants for Georgia, the Callahan Incentive Grants, and the Wade and Mary Lu Mitchell African American Heritage Preservation Grant. Letters of interest are being accepted through November 20, 2026.
 
The 1772 Foundation is partnering again with The Georgia Trust to offer rehabilitation grants for Georgia in 2027. Matching grants of up to $10,000 will be made available for private non-profit organizations for exterior restoration and rehabilitation of historic buildings and sites. This year, there will also be $10,000 available for climate action grants in a new pilot program. Funds are available for energy audit assessments, insulation upgrades, alternative energy sources, efficient HVAC systems, appliances or storm windows. Funding will not be provided for buildings currently in use as schools or churches, and all projects must be consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation.
 
The Callahan Incentive Grant is made possible by a generous grant from Barbara and Les Callahan, longtime supporters of The Georgia Trust, to provide funding for historic preservation projects in Georgia. Matching grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 will be available for non-profit or government organizations for capital, or “bricks-and-mortar,” projects statewide.
 
The Wade and Mary Lu Mitchell African American Heritage Preservation Grant is made available through the Mitchell Family Fund at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. During their lifetimes, Mary Lu and Wade Mitchell were staunch proponents for the advancement of many African American causes in Atlanta. This grant will fund up to $20,000 for African American heritage preservation efforts and is limited to historic sites in Atlanta. The grant funds physical preservation projects and interpretive projects that contribute to the long-term preservation of significant Black sites and help to bring public awareness to their history. 

Organizations that wish to be considered for any of the three grant programs should submit a one-page letter of interest to Ben Sutton, Director of Preservation, at [email protected]. Letters of interest are due by Friday, November 20, 2026.
