Metro Rome Reports Gains in Labor Force, Employment and Jobs in August

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the one-county Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area saw gains in its labor force, employment and jobs in August. The over-the-month unemployment rate rose two-tenths of a percentage point to 3.3%, down from 3.9% a year ago.
“Georgia’s economy continues to deliver,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes. “Across the state, we’re seeing a strong labor force and regional growth that reflects an economy rewarding hard work, encouraging job creation and removing unnecessary barriers. As we build Georgia into a Top State for Talent, we’re creating a place where people can work, businesses can invest and communities can thrive.”
The labor force in Rome increased by 315 over the month and by 1,399 from August 2025, reaching 48,592.
Rome finished the month with 47,007 employed residents, up 246 over the month and 1,643 from August 2025.
Rome ended August with 46,900 jobs, up 100 over the previous month and 600 over the year.
In August, initial unemployment claims in Rome decreased by 105 from the previous month and 151 from the same month a year ago, totaling 130.
