The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the one-county Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area saw an increase in employment in July, while the unemployment rate fell five-tenths of a percentage point over the month to 3.1%. A year ago, the rate was 4.0%.

“July brought a clear victory for Georgia: Unemployment fell in every single metro area and region,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “When state leaders, local communities and Main Street businesses row in the same direction, results follow. We aren’t slowing down – our focus remains on putting Georgians to work, growing paychecks and building real opportunity in every corner of the state.”

The labor force in Rome decreased by 34 over the month and increased by 1,020 from July 2025, reaching 48,208

Rome finished the month with 46,693 employed residents, up 196 over the month and 1,400 from July 2025.

Rome ended July with 46,700 jobs, unchanged over the previous month and up 1,000 over the year.

 In July, initial unemployment claims in Rome decreased by 59 from the previous month and decreased by 177 from the same month a year ago, totaling 235.
