From An Infant in Foster Care to College Success: Kristauna's Story
Tuesday, June 9th, 2026
Kristauna entered Georgia's foster care system at just nine months old and spent much of her childhood moving between family placements and foster care. Despite years of uncertainty and instability, she never lost sight of her goals. Today, she is a first-generation college student at Georgia State University pursuing a degree in Healthcare Management, determined to build a successful career while creating a different future for herself and her family.
Like many youth aging out of foster care, Kristauna faced the challenge of balancing education, employment, and everyday living expenses without the support system many young adults rely upon. Through services supported by the Fostering Success Act, she gained access to resources that allowed her to focus on her studies and continue progressing toward graduation. Kristauna describes herself as "a flower just blooming," a reflection of the growth that becomes possible when young people are given the opportunity to thrive.
Stories like Kristauna's demonstrate why the Fostering Success Act matters. By redirecting state tax dollars through Georgia's dollar-for-dollar tax credit, individuals and businesses can help provide housing, education, transportation, counseling, and other critical support services that empower youth aging out of foster care to become the next generation of professionals, leaders, and contributors to Georgia's economy.
